A10 Gites In Charente - For An Enjoyable Holiday Experience
About Us

A10 Gites In Charent is owned and operated by Ian and Ann Woodward who live on the site and are therefore able to offer our help and assistance, whenever required, to our guests.

Our outlook is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance to us and our entire approach is a commitment to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.

We would therefore welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver to you the best service that the Rural/Rustic French Gite holiday home industry can supply.

Location:

Martinet, 1, Voie Communale N°16, Puibaille-Nord,
Mirambeau, 17150, Dept 17 Charente Maritime, France

We are easy to find as we are only 2.5 miles from Junction 37 on the A10 Autoroute heading south from any of the channel ports. For the shortest distances and hence lower fuel and toll cost we would recommend first of all St. Malo, about 4.5 hours drive, then Caen and Cherbourg, both about 6 hours drive. Please note however that ferry costs tend to be higher on these routes and this would have to be weighed against the cheaper crossings to Calais by ferry or Eurotunnel but with the attendant higher fuel and toll charges and of course the much increased driving time, about a 9 hour drive. These estimates based mainly on Autoroute travel. RN roads tend to be good but have more towns etc. to negotiate, which increases driving times considerably.

There are four airports close by, all about one hours drive away, and all have car hire facilities at them but with very different fares and flight times. Bordeaux and Bergerac are to the south, use Junction 38  of the A10 coming north, and Rochefort and La Rochelle are to the north of us. Depending on the time of year flights are available from BA, Air France and the budget airlines such as Fly Be, Ryan Air and Easy Jet etc. from a multitude of UK Airports.

Jonzac, to the east of us, about 8 miles away, has the nearest railway station. The service from Calais via Lille or Paris is good and fast and for the really keen you can bring your cycle with you on the train. Cycles are available for hire locally including for delivery and collection.

Mirambeau itself is a market town (Saturday morning market) with supermarkets, SUPER U, LIDL and MUTANT, small local shops, banks, bars, hotels and restaurants. The magnificent beaches at St Georges de Didonne and Royan and Palmyra Zoo at Royan are ideal for the younger family and are about a 50 minute drive away as are Bordeaux, Saintes and Cognac for those with perhaps a more cultural and, dare I say it, shopping mind set.

There are local 'wine trails (Route Du Vignoble)' and nature reserves close by and this lovely and very scenic rural area is ideal for walkers and cyclists. Golf courses and fishing, cannoing and boat trips on the Gironde and the Charente River itself are all close at hand. For young and old alike about a ten minute drive away is Les Antilles de Jonzac an indoor water park combining beauty, sport, games and fitness, beneath a great stretched canvas that is partially open during the summer. There is also a large water park on the outskirts of Bordeaux.

For the night birds requiring a little excitement there is also a Casino at Jonzac. In the summer there are local night markets at Jonzac and Montendre usually with free music shows as well as numerous 'Brocantes' which are like local car boot sales, covering from 'Junk' to quite large and impressive antique items of furniture and sometimes these come with live music and food and drink suppliers and which can go on until quite late. The larger ones such as at Mirambeau have classic tractor exhibitions as well and conclude with large fireworks displays.
